The Financial Times is moving it’s App to it’s own website with a Web App for Tablets and Smartphones and won’t be giving 30% of it’s subscription fee to Apple. Will it work? Will other follow suit?

This is a Web Video Advertising an iAd Commercial for a Nissan Leaf on an iPhone. That’s right, people are using the web to promote their commercials. Seen any other ones?

Eric from Appvee.com reviews the ABC Player iPad App and give it a big thumbs up. I think the ABC iPad App is great as well but it reminds me of the early days of TV.

If you remember your television history, radio was still king and television was looked at as a passing fad. Much the same way the iPad is looked at by many right now. Back then, radio shows were show on TV the way they were broadcast on the radio, people stood in front of microphones and acted out the radio show. Television formats had not yet been developed. It wasn’t till the 1950s when Desi Arnaz developed a muti-camera format for the sitcom I love Lucy that TV shows stopped being broadcast live in the large markets and shown as kinescope images around the country later. His format is still in use today.

As for web video and now iPad video, we are doing the same thing. We are taking television shows and things that look like TV shows and putting them on these new platforms. We have yet to develop new interactive programming.

I’m hopping that this year we will see some iPad Video Apps that are more than just radio shows on TV. I’m hopping we get to see some new interactive shows that take our minds in new places and give us joy the way I love Lucy did and still does today.

Using the song “Hell” by The Squirrel Nut Zippers Pat Lee has put together a YouTube video that has a good chance of going viral and creating more headaches for AT&T. According to Lee’s YouTube Post, ” I love my iPhone but hate AT&T with a seething animosity. I know I’m not the only one. So great was my frustration that I was inspired to make this 30-second commercial in the style of Apple’s ubiquitous ads. Oh, did I mention I hate AT&T?”

It also looks like he posted it on a weekend which makes it interesting to see how AT&T will respond via their social media channels and how many days it will take them.

I wonder if AT&T will do as great of a job as United Airlines did with United Breaks Guitars (which by the way now has over 4 million views) and if Mr. Lee will ever see any editing work from AT&T?
