What Was Your Favorite Video of 2008?

The Lonely Island's (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) "Jiz In My Pants" was the number one video on YouTube last month with over 14 million views. The star power of Andy Samberg, Molly Sims, Jamie Lynn Sigler, and Justin Timberlake as well as a showing as a SNL Digital Short on NBC's Saturday Night Live didn't hurt it one bit. Who says, "TV is Dead?" "Jizz In My Pants" also happens to be the first single from The Lonely Island's debut album "INCREDIBAD" from Universal Republic. In stores 02/10/2009. Based on this and Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog I think we are going to see more and more online videos have songs attached. This could be a year where video producers make money through music sales. It will be pretty ironic if the music industry ends up serving video digital dollars as music starts earning analog pennies. 2008 was full of great online videos. What were your favorite web videos of 2008?

Tim, what did you mean by this?

“It will be pretty ironic if the music industry ends up serving video digital dollars as music starts earning analog pennies.”

Maybe just elaborate on that if you can.

    Hey Matt,

    Thanks for the comment.

NBC Universal head Jeff Zucker warned that media producers should be careful, “that we do not end up trading analog dollars for digital pennies.”

In many circles the music industry is blamed for screwing up online video sales because of how they didn’t adapt to Internet music piracy. If online video ends up making money through selling the music from their videos it will be ironic.

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Thanks for participating in the conversation.
